Many posts seek to teach how to get traffic to your blog. Each one has some guidance for the blogger.
How I Made the Blog A-List (And You Can Too) by Scott Allen uses Technorati as a benchmark to achieve traffic. His suggestions are:
(1) The basics–write well, write often and comment on others’ blogs.
(2) A blog network helps–He has 40 million readers and is a member of About and b5media. (I will post in the future about blog networks).
(3) Link list posts–people love lists. I have long believed that we live in a “sound-bite” world and prefer to gain information in short, clear bursts. Lists help to organize information. He uses one of his posts, Top 10 Most Practical Blogs for Entrepreneurs as an example that although the post is 2 years old, it is still popular. He also mentions Mashable’s “Make Money Online: 100+ Tools and Resources” as being a post of someone else’s that has new information for Scott.
(4) Have unique content–he suggests the you know your niche and write about so people will want to link to original information. Although I do use posts such as this one where I am repeating the ideas of another writer (Scott), I also do much original posting.
(5) Become part of blog carnivals–check for BlogCarnival.com for finding and submitting to blog carnivals.
(6) Use your blog as your home page. Read Scott’s article for why to do this. Join his forum post your progress and questions.
